i also have two lumia 520s on the same microsoft account and they back up apps and settings without issue.

I am having the same issue. I just bought a  Nokia 520 at a great price of $30 to try out the Windows Platform. I have had two iPhones and then I recently got a Galaxy S5 and liked it better than my iPhones. I could not resist the deal of getting a Nokia Windows phone brand new with no contract for $30 just to try out the platform. I really am impressed with the phone. The only issues I am having is that the platform definitely lacks apps that I have really gotten depend on both iPhone and Android. Going from 160 iPhone apps to Android I found that I was not able to find 5 to 10 apps on the Android platform, luckily I found very capable substitute apps. That is not the case on Windows platform.  I really find there are a lot of apps that just don't exist and no real substitutes either. Its a real shame. The Windows Platform is very similar to the iPhone experience. Very clean very easy to use.
Now the other issue is the backup error message. Seems I have not been able to find a solution. I have tried several suggestions. I have deleted the back up several times. I have rebooted the phone several times, I have changed the lockscreen to Bing, I have shut off text backup, I have changed my lockscreen to Never. I don't know what else to try. I have a feeling it is backing up something. Because a backup file does appear in One Drive. But it doesn't feel good to keep getting "There is a problem backing up your phone settings. Try again later." I usually resolve issues on the Galaxy and iPhone a lot easier. I guess there are more solutions available.
